Phone scam alert in Pope County and southern Illinois

An alert to a phone scam in Pope County and southern Illinois has been issued.

According to the Pope County Sheriff's Office, there has been a report of calls being received that say they are from the Sheriff's Office.

They say that they are not calling anyone, and especially will not call and ask for money.

They remind everyone to never give out information on the telephone, and if one receives such a call, verify who they are speaking with by calling, or coming to the Pope County Sheriff's Office located at 216 East Decatur Street in Golconda.
