The City of Metropolis recently secured a $4.8 million state grant to install roads and utilities in the city's as-yet undeveloped Industrial Park.

The funding from the State of Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity will go toward the $6 million need for the completion of Phase 1 and begin Phase 2 of the park. The city will be responsible for the remaining $1.2 million for the extension.

Work will include the construction of two roads and the installation of water, sewer and power to the acreage of the park that has never been developed.

Up to 113 acres of agricultural land about a mile from the I-24 exit is available for development.

The state made the announcement of its latest $30 million in grants, bringing the state's total to $60 million in projects. Among the seven most recent grants, Metropolis was the only one awarded in the southern end of Illinois.
