Some folks had to empty out their rain gauge and start over as rain from now-tropical depression Helene topped six inches on Friday alone.
According to the National Weather Service, Paducah measured 5.33 inches of rainfall at Barkley Field. That smashes the old daily record of 1.84 inches set on September 27, 1964. It's the second highest daily rainfall amount ever recorded in September at Paducah dating back to 1937.
Paducah's highest ever daily rainfall total of 7.49 inches fell on September 5, 1985 with the remnants of Hurricane Elena.
