The Mayfield Community Foundation recently donated $250,000 to the Mayfield-Graves County Long-Term Recovery Group to aid in continued recovery from the December 2021 tornado.
Donated funds will assist with constructing homes for tornado survivors through their "New Lease on Life" program. The program purchases vacant homes and makes needed repairs and improvements. The LTRG then identifies eligible survivors and matches them with homes, based upon family size, location and financial sustainability.
The lack of safe and affordable housing continues to be an obstacle in Mayfield’s recovery. The "New Lease on Life" program offers one of the fastest ways to provide housing for tornado survivors. However, the lack of skilled laborers and volunteer groups has caused delays.
In the next phase of this program, the LTRG will coordinate efforts to bring teams from across the country into western Kentucky to help with the renovations.
