A drug investigation in Graves County ended with the arrest of a Mayfield pair on Wednesday.

The Graves County Sheriff's Office said suspects were under surveillance by sheriff's deputies, assisted by Mayfield Police, near the intersection of North 13th Street and West James.

When the suspects were stopped by sheriff's detectives, the driver identified as 26-year-old Keon K. Boyd, reportedly drove away on West James. Two deputies blocked his path which forced him to drive into a yard where he had to stop near a creek.

Boyd reportedly jumped from the vehicle into the creek and then across. During the foot chase, Boyd allegedly threw a loaded 9mm semi-automatic pistol. Boyd was eventually caught by officers in a back yard of a home on North 12th Street.

A passenger in the car was identified as 24-year-old Vanessa M. Vasquez.

Detectives said they seized over one pound of crystal meth, a loaded AR-15 style .223 caliber semiautomatic rifle, with a 60-round high capacity magazine, a variety of ammunition, electronic scales, and cash.

Boyd was charged with trafficking in meth, fleeing or evading police, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Vasquez was charged with trafficking in methamphetamine.
