A traffic stop in Graves County Friday led to two Mayfield residents being charged with trafficking in methamphetamine.

The stop took place just after 1 a.m. Friday on US 45 between Mayfield and Hickory. After speaking to the occupants of the vehicle, 50-year-old Edward Ellegood and 39-year-old Amber Zib-Poot both of Mayfield, Mayfield Police and their K-9 were called in for a sniff of the vehicle. The K-9 alerted the officer and the deputies to the alleged presence of drugs in the vehicle.

The deputies searched the vehicle and reportedly located meth, hydrocodone pills, scales and other drug paraphernalia. They also said that Ellegood showed signs of being under the influence of a controlled substance.

Ellegood and Zib-Poot were both charged with trafficking in methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance, and drug paraphernalia. Ellegood was additionally charged with driving under the influence and another traffic offense.

Both were taken to the Graves County Restricted Custody Center before being transferred to an out-of-county facility.
