After months of negotiation, a new contract will allow the Cave-in-Rock ferry to continue uninterupted service to cross the Ohio River between Kentucky and Illinois.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet posted on Saturday that Kentucky and Illinois transportation officials came to a new two-year agreement with the Ohio River Ferry Authority. The ferry authority was created by the Crittenden County Fiscal Court to oversee the management and operation of the privately owned ferry service.
The new contract includes a 13% increase in annual funding to $1,878,060 each year.
The Cave-in-Rock Ferry carries about 300 vehicles per day at no cost to travelers.
