The McCracken County Sheriff's Foundation is hosting a photo fundraiser Saturday to help the Sheriff's Office buy a new piece of technology to assist in investigations.
The new item is a 3D site scanner that can reduce the time it takes to survey a crime or collision scene. "We can reduce our collision reconstruction times, probably, about 75 percent," Sheriff Ryan Norman said to West Kentucky Star. "Because the lasers shoot out 1,000 to 10,000 measurements per second." The scanner takes those rapid measurements, maps the scene, and allows for a virtual fly-through of a site.
To help raise funds to buy the scanner, the McCracken County Sheriff's Foundation is bringing in Krystal Klear Photography to Randy's Body Shop on Saturday for fall or Christmas pictures. The sitting fee and one 8x10 will cost $30 with all of that money going to the foundation. There will also be opportunities to buy more photos and Krystal Klear will give 20 percent of any additional sales to the foundation, as well.
Reservations for the 15-minute sessions need to be made in advance. Book a session by scanning the QR Code for Krystal Klear Photography at the bottom of the story or by calling (270) 559-3555. Simple donations to the McCracken County Sheriff's Foundation, Incorporated can be made by scanning the PayPal QR Code below, as well.
Norman said the scanner would be a huge benefit for his department, but the device does come with a big price tag. "It would be safer for the public. We'd get better evidence for any type of criminal action. It would just be better for the community, and it's expensive so we haven't asked the taxpayers to pay for it."
