Probabilities are significantly higher than twelve hours ago that portions of the Quad State will see major impacts from wintry weather this weekend.
Prospects of 4+ inches of snow have trended northward, now increased to the 60-80% range for all of western Kentucky, and the southernmost counties of Illinois.
It still looks like southeast Missouri into western Kentucky would see the greatest probabilities, especially along the Tennessee line. A Winter Storm Watch was issued this morning.
There will be a sharp dropoff in snow totals along the northern edge of the storm, but there are still questions as to where that line will be located.
All along, confidence has been high that arctic air will filter in with the winter storm this weekend. Temperatures are likely to run about 25 degrees below normal for Friday through at least Monday, putting high temperatures in the teens to low 20s with wind chill readings falling into the single digits above and below zero.
