Summer officially starts today, but the heat has already moved in to stay

As summer officially arrives at 3:51 p.m. today, the summer heat will continue to rachet up daily through next week.

More sunshine each day will help temperatures rise back up well into the 90s through the weekend. Heat index values will range from the mid 90s to low 100s most afternoons. 

There might be some slight relief on Sunday with a few showers or storms possible along a frontal boundary, but after that highs in the 90s may remain over the region through much of next week, with accompanying heat indices of 100 to 105.
