A Smithland man was arrested Tuesday after being accused of trying to steal tools and other items from the fire department.
Livingston County Sheriff's deputies were called to a report of a burglary at the Smithland Fire Department during the ealy morning hours Saturday. By the time they arrived, the suspect had already fled the scene.
Deputies and officers from the Kentucky Department of Probation and Parole were led to 32-year-old Richard James Kyle of Smithland on Tuesday. All the items taken from the fire department were allegedly found at Kyle's home.
Kyle was arrested and charged with 3rd-degree burglary and taken to the McCracken County Regional Jail.
