A semi truck and trailer overturned Wednesday during the EF2 tornado weather event in McCracken County.

The McCracken County Sheriff's Office said Christopher Blevins of North Carolina was driving his semi truck and enclosed box trailer westbound on I-24 around the 13 mile marker at 8:35 pm. It was the same time there was an EF2 tornado on the ground in the area.

Blevins told deputies the intensity of rain increased dramatically just prior to the rollover, which caused him to slow the vehicle down to attempt to navigate the roadway safely.

Due to the high winds which were roughly broadside in their path to the vehicle, the semi and trailer suddenly overturned on the roadway, causing both the semi and trailer to land on the passenger's side.

Blevins was able to exit from the cab of the truck through the windshield. He was transported to an area hospital for treatment of possible injuries sustained in the collision.
