On Wednesday, the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife will deliver 1500 rainbow trout to Lake Montgomery in Bob Noble Park.
Since rainbow trout prefer cold water, the KDFWR stocks them at Lake Montgomery during the cooler months of February, March, and October. The department stocks channel catfish during the warmer months of March, April, May, and June.
The delivery is part of the city's partnership in the Fishing in Neighborhoods (FINs) program. The program began in 2006, with Lake Montgomery added in 2010. The program currently includes more than 40 lakes statewide.
Also this month, the KDFWR will survey the lake's catfish population. To accomplish the task, baited hoop nets will be set on October 21 and collected on October 24. The public will see boats in the lake as conservation staff check the length, weight and condition of the lake’s catfish.
