Over $5.6 million in state grants are coming for six Kentucky railway infrastructure improvement projects spanning seven counties, including Lyon County.

The Eddyville Riverport and Industrial Development Authority will receive $526,581

As of last May, the Eddyville riverport had already applied for other grants to add an inlet to expand available water frontage at the port on Lake Barkey. The new inlet would be approximately 300 feet long and 30 feet deep, and could at least double the number of barges handled at one time.

Other statewide projects receiving funding include construction of new rail spurs; replacement of culverts, expansion of on-ite storage and loading capacity, and purchase of new equipment.

Funds were distributed by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet through the Kentucky Industrial Access and Safety Improvement program.

The other recipients of awards are:

Logan Aluminum, Inc., $1,217,250
Norfolk Southern, $499,000
Novelis Corporation, $1,875,000
Owensboro Riverport Authority, $441,245
Stainless Steel Acquisition Co. LLC, $1,053,500
