The National Weather Service in Paducah says they have concluded more than a week of storm surveys.
They confirmed that sixteen tornadoes touched down during the two rounds of storms on May 26th across the Quad State region.
Meteorologists said the tornadoes combined to produce a record-shattering 255 miles of damage across the 58-county area.
This surpassed Feb 29, 2012 (162 miles) and Dec 10, 2021 (159 miles) for the number of miles that tornadoes tracked across parts of our region.
There were seven different tornadoes that were on the ground for at least 19 miles, with the longest track being 42 miles in Ripley and Butler counties in Missouri.
Western Kentucky's I-69 tornado that carved a path through parts of Lyon, Caldwell, and Hopkins counties traveled a path 35 miles long.
For the year to date, there have been 46 tornadoes touch down in the 58-county Paducah forecast area, for a total of 402 miles on the ground.
