During a special called meeting Monday, the Murray Independent School District named a new superintendent and purchased land for a new elementary school.

The Murray Sentinel reported that current Livingston County superintendent, Dr. David Meinschien, will replace the retiring Coy Samons at the end of June.  Meinschien is also a member of Murray State University's Board of Regents.

In other action, the board unaminously voted to purchase property near the intersection of Doran and Wiswell roads for over $644,000 to be the site of a new elementary school.
