For the third straight day, a heat advisory has been issued for a portion of our region.
Today's advisory from 11 am until 7 pm is for all of western Kentucky, southernmost Illinois and northwest Tennessee.
The National Weather Service says the peak heat index should arrive early, but only last an hour or two before storms develop and begin to provide some relief.
The thunderstorms will bring torrential rainfall, lightning and isolated gusty winds.
Thunderstorms will be a factor all weekend, then a major heat wave will build through all of next week, including highs in the upper 90s midweek. The heat index could reach 115 or higher in some places, especially in southeast Missouri.
