The McCracken County Fiscal Court held a special called meeting on Wednesday to award a $2.69 million contract to repair the roofs of the McCracken County Convention Center and the Expo Center.
The contract awarded to Minter Roofing of Benton includes $718,000 for the convention center roof and $1,351,000 for the expo center roof.
The city of Paducah owns the Showroom Lounge portion of the convention center, which includes about 12 percent of the roof's entire surface. The city will cover a commensurate 12 percent of costs of that repair job.
Fiscal Court members determined that a written agreement specifying terms would be in order, prior to issuing a final ordinance Sept. 25. If terms are in dispute, the two governments could seek a roofer to provide a professional cost estimate.
The county will issue $1.8 million to $2.2 million in bonds to cover the convention center's roof replacement. The county plans to pay the bond amount for 15 years. Annual payments would total $160,000. The county also could choose to refinance the bond after a period of nine years.
In other action, the county board paid nearly $117,000 to Peck Flannery Gream Warren for the Sports Complex Project's design. That meets provisions of the interlocal cooperation agreement between the Sports Tourism Commission, the city, and the county.
The city of Paducah will pay half of the invoice to the county. In turn, the treasurer will authorize transferring nearly $58,500 to the Sports Complex Project Fund from the General Fund.
The county board also approved tax rates that taxing district boards recently set.
The Fiscal Court levied a tax rate of 0.1578 on real estate and a tax rate of 0.105 on tangible property. The tax revenue will fund county government maintenance, repair of publc roads and bridges and similar county general expenses.
The commissioners adopted resolutions concerning tax collection for the county health department. The fiscal court imposed an ad valorem public health tax of 0.03 for real estate and tangible property.
