After being closed for most of April, the Cave In Rock Ferry resumed operation this morning at 6:00 am. Ferry operators ask that you allow extra travel time due to heavy equipment that continues to clear the sand away from the docking areas due to the receding high water.
The majority of state roads that were affected by high water in western Kentucky are now back open.
Less than a dozen state roads are still closed in Crittenden, Fulton, Graves, Hickman and Trigg counties.
The Ohio River at Paducah crested at 48.15 feet last Tuesday. The river fell below flood stage of 39 feet on Tuesday evening. This is allowing the standing water in several counties to drain toward the river.
Even as water goes down, motorists are still asked to not move barricades or signs. Road conditions below water, even if shallow, are unknown and could be dangerous.
