Federal grants from the Safer Communities Act will see more than $1 million awarded to western Kentucky schools and education agencies.
Grants from the Department of Justice and their School Violence Prevention Program and the STOP School Violence Program include $200,160 headed to McCracken County Schools.
An additional $999,845 will go to the West Kentucky Educational Cooperative which serves 26 school districts across the western third of the state.
Other districts receiving shares of $7 million in DOJ grants for school safety include Leslie County, Fayette County, Johnson County, Barren County, plus the Kentucky Educational Development Finance Corporation.
