Kirksey man charged with murder after alleged arson

A Kirksey man has been charged with murder after a woman died in an alleged arson.

The fire happened back on May 19th at a home on Saddlebrook Lane. Firefighters and police found the home fully involved when they arrived. Later, during their investigation, they discovered that the fire had claimed the life of Lisa Bebber.

Detectives determined that the fire had been intentionally set, allegedly by 63-year-old Jody M. Smith of Kirksey.

An arrest warrant was issued for Smith, and Calloway County Sheriff’s deputies arrested him without incident on Wednesday.

Smith was charged with murder and arson, and he was booked into the Calloway County Detention Center.
