Scattered severe storms are expected late this evening (9pm to 1am) in southern Illinois along the I-64 corridor at Mt. Vernon.
Primary hazards will be tornadoes, damaging winds and large hail, especially along the leading edge of approaching storms (intensity level 2 out of 5).
They'll gradually sink southward through Marion and Carbondale overnight (midnight-4am), decreasing in severity through the rest of southern Illinois (level 1 out of 5).
Storms could continue through western Kentucky early Thursday from 3am til about 6am.
Another round of thunderstorms is possible Thursday afternoon and evening, with a few strong to severe storms possible (level 1 out of 5).
