The Kentucky Supreme Court on Thursday upheld the triple murder conviction of Christian “Kit” Martin but reversed his arson conviction.
Martin was convicted by a Christian County grand jury in 2021 of the deaths of Pembroke residents Calvin and Pamela Phillips and a neighbor Ed Danseresu in 2015. The case garnered national attention when Martin was arrested at Muhammad Ali International Airport in Louisville.
In the 45-page ruling, Martin's three counts of murder, two counts of burgulary and three counts of tampering with physical evidence will remain intact, but the reversal of an arson and first degree attempted arson charge does remove a life sentence, along with an additional 20-year prison term.
WKDZ reported that Martin would need to undergo a new trial for the arson charges if the Commonwealth elects to do so.
