After more than a year of discussion, the City of Paducah and the McCracken County Fiscal Court have announced a date for the joint meeting to approve the agreement on the proposed Greenway Sports Complex.

The meeting will take place on September 7th at the Julian Carroll Convention Center. The public is invited to the 3 p.m. meeting and celebration.

The complex will occupy the property of the former Bluegrass Downs and Stuart Nelson Park. It will include baseball diamonds, softball fields, and soccer fields. The grandstand from Bluegrass Downs will be refurbished, and improvements will be made to Stuart Nelson Park Road as a part of the project.

Paducah Mayor George Bray said, "We are excited about working with the County Fiscal Court and the Sports Tourism Commission toward the same goal as we move to the next phase of the project. The development of this outdoor sports complex will serve as a driver for sports tourism, economic development, and community pride. We are all working together to ensure that it’s a resounding success for our residents and visitors.”

McCracken County Judge Executive Craig Clymer said, “This joinder of the County, City, and Sports Commission is a giant leap forward in a transformational achievement for our community and the entire region. We started with a desire to move our children from soccer fields situated on a reclaimed landfill. We boldly dreamed what is the biggest and best success that we can achieve? And this is it - joining together to create a multi-sport complex, not only for our residents’ use, but also to bring tens of millions of tourism dollars into our region. We are working together for success. The bell has rung, the gates are thrown open, and we are off and running."
