Local sheriffs accepting donations for this summer's Boys and Girls Ranch

The Kentucky Sheriffs Association Boys and Girls Ranch is preparing for this summer's camp sessions in June and July.

Each county's sheriff's department will host a group of deserving kids from their county. The purpose of the Kentucky Sheriff’s Ranch is to provide kids with a safe, recreational and educational atmosphere to grow physically, socially, and mentally in a camp setting.

Children must be between the ages of 8-11 and qualify for free/reduced meals at school. Applications for camp are available at sheriff's offices.

In preparation for hosting hundreds of kids at the ranch in Gilbertsville, the camp is always seeking donations of household supplies, craft supplies and goody bag items.

Household items include:
Sunscreen - 50 SPF and 100 SPF (spray version, not lotion)
Trash bags - all sizes, but especially 55-gallon contractor bags
Styrofoam plates- oblong, divided
plastic spoons and forks; 6-8 ounce disposable cups
Fabric softener/dryer sheets
Lysol laundry sanitizer
Pine Sol
Laundry detergent
First aid bandage tape
Eye and ear drops
Toothache relief meds
Swimmer's ear drops

Basic arts and crafts kits and items (googly eyes, washable paint, canvases, etc.)

The ranch has backpacks that they want to fill with goodie bag items:
Bibles
candy
school supplies (crayons, pencils, markers, etc.)
Coloring books
Small stuffed toys/animals

They're also accepting donations of girls' bikes for their Camper of the Week awards.

Items can be taken to your local sheriff's office, or if you order online, you can have them shipped directly to the ranch.
