Monday's gusty winds met and exceeded the forecast, and caused dozens of cases of tree and structure damage across the region.
Reports to the National Weather Service included winds measured at 61 miles per hour in Marion, Evansville and the Pennyrile. A semi was blown over in Morganfield, and another truck rolled over from a gust near Harrisburg.
A carport was tossed against a Harrisburg home, and a metal building was overturned in Hopkins County.
Virtually all of western Kentucky and southern Illinois also experienced gusts over 50 mph. In Paducah, a tree fell across a car on Jackson Street. Another large tree fell in Noble Park.
Trees came down across Contest Road and Cairo Road, and another fell on a house at Metropolis Lake Road in McCracken County.
In Marshall County a rubberized roof was damaged on an office building northeast of Benton. In Calloway County, a tree hit a car and brought down power lines near New Concord.
The high winds also made it difficult to manage several fires that broke out. In Crittenden County, field fires were fought on KY 120 and on Main Lake Road. An outbuilding on Maple Street in Marion was destroyed by fire.
In Trigg County, a field fire on Blackhawk Road was sparked by a power line brought down by gusty winds. More field fires broke out in Christian and Todd counties.
