A former babysitter for a Carlisle County family was arrested and charged with having an illegal intimate relationship with a 12-year-old girl.
The child's mother called the Carlisle County Sheriff's Office after she discovered that the child had a cell phone she did not provide. The phone had allegedly been given to the child through an intermediary for the former babysitter, 22-year-old Kaitlyn Hawthorne of Bardwell.
Deputies interviewed Hawthorne and she reportedly told them what was described as an intimate relationship had started in October 2022. Hawthorne was working as a babysitter in the child's home at the time. Around that time, the child's mother told the woman to stay away from the girl after she reportedly uncovered inappropriate comments from Hawthorne.
Deputies learned that Hawthorne had 18-year-old Shyann Danner deliver the cell phone to the girl in January so they could stay in contact. In an interview Friday, Danner reportedly told deputies that she was aware the mother wanted Hawthorne to stay away from the girl. Danner also is said to have told them she knew Hawthorne and the 12-year-old were "dating."
Hawthorne allegedly told deputies that she loved the girl and their physical relationship started while babysitting.
Hawthorne was arrested and charged with unlawful transaction with a minor-illegal sex act with a victim under 16.
Charges are said to be pending against Danner.
