What began with a report of a reckless driver ended with a collision and felony DUI arrest on Monday.

McCracken County Sheriff Deputies responded to the area of Clark Line Road and Houser Road around 7:30 pm after receiving a report of a maroon passenger car driving in a reckless manner.

A deputy spotted the vehicle traveling on Clark Line Road and reportedly measured its speed using radar at 25 MPH over the posted speed limit. The deputy attempted to catch up to the vehicle in order to make a traffic stop but lost sight of the vehicle as it continued at a high rate of speed East on Clark Line Road.

Less than a minute later, 911 Dispatch began receiving calls about a maroon passenger car that had run off the roadway and flipped upside down nearby at Clark Line Road and Old Mayfield Road. Bystanders reported that someone was seen running from the vehicle.

Thanks to the information provided by the 911 callers, deputies were able to quickly apprehend the suspect, identified as 32-year-old Cody Draffen of Paducah.

Once Draffen was cleared by the hospital, he was charged with driving on a DUI-suspended license, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, reckless driving, speeding 25 MPH over the limit and leaving the scene of an accident.

Under Kentucky law, drivers who repeatedly drive under the influence or while having a DUI-Suspended license may qualify for felony charges.
