According to the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, a school resource officer spotted ammunition on the dashboard of a vehicle while on parking lot patrol Tuesday morning. Further inspection of the vehicle found a .22 caliber rifle in the rear seat. The person who drove that vehicle was quickly located, and the school said the student was very cooperative.
The Sheriff’s Office and school administration both indicated that there was never a direct threat to students or staff, and the weapon was never inside the building.
The student was taken into custody and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon on school property. The charge is a class D felony.
