Christian, Trigg counties report 6 new measles cases in past week

Six new cases of measles detected in Christian and Trigg counties in the past week have helped raise the statewide total to 45 in the summer outbreak reported by the Kentucky Department for Public Health.

Christian County now totals 18 measles cases this summer, up four since last week. Trigg County is up to 8 cases, up two since a week ago. Caldwell County reported no new cases, and two previous cases.

One new case in Jessamine County was also detected in the past week, after 38 previous Kentucky cases were recorded in July and August.

Three of the statewide cases have required hospitalization. All cases occurred among persons who were not vaccinated.

The KDPH says this year's number of measles cases are the highest in 35 years.

Counties with reported cases include:

Christian County: 18 cases  (4 more than reported on Sept. 3)
Trigg County: 8 cases  (2 more than last week)
Jessamine County: 5 cases  (1 more than last week)
Washington County: 5 cases
Barren County: 5 cases
Caldwell County: 2 cases
Owen County: 2 cases
Todd County: 1 case

Nationally, 3,134 cases of measles have been reported this year, compared to 2,289 in 2025. The cases are spread among 47 states, with the largest outbreaks in South Carolina, Pennsylvania, Utah, Texas and Virginia.
