60 to 80-mph winds knock out power to thousands across western Kentucky

The severe storms that brought damaging winds and an EF-2 tornado to western Kentucky on Friday only increased in strength as they raced across Kentucky, Tennessee and much of the Southeast.

Power outages were widespread across the lakes and Pennyrile region as winds were clocked at 79 miles per hour in Clarksville, and exceeded 60 mph regionwide.

As of Saturday morning, the utility website Poweroutage.us reported 400,000 Kentucky homes were without power in nearly every county of the state. Tennessee had about 100,000 still out Saturday.

Middle Tennessee counties also had massive outages, including:
