In a companion campaign to their food collection at the Noble Park Christmas lights, Paducah Power recently completed this year's School Challenge in McCracken County.

Students and staff from thirteen participating schools gathered a total this year of 31,560 pounds of food.  The food will be distributed locally to Family Service Society, the Salvation Army, Paducah Cooperative Ministry and St. Vincent De Paul.

The schools vied for a prize of $1,000 by collecting the most pounds of food per student, according to their enrollment. Winner in the category of schools with 499 or fewer students was Community Christian Academy with 11 pounds per student. Runner-up was Heath Elementary with 10.06 pounds.

The winner in the category of schools with 500 or more students was Concord Elementary with 11.34 pounds per student, and runner-up was Lone Oak Elementary which had 8.55 pounds.

Donations can still be made at Noble Park. Similar collections also took place again this year at Mike Miller Park in Draffenville, Central Park in Murray, the Mayfield-Graves County fairgrounds, and the Ballard County fairgrounds.
