A Melber couple are behind bars after being indicted in the death of a two-year-old child back in June.

Police were called to a home on KY 849 in Graves County on June 17th after the child was found in a swimming pool. Life-saving measures performed by first responders were unsuccessful, and the child was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

The investigation by Kentucky State Police and the Department of Community Based Services was completed earlier this month and was presented to a Grand Jury. Indictments were handed down against 27-year-old Nathaniel Purcell, the child's father, and his girlfriend 26-year-old Courtney Amacher.

Purcell and Amacher were arrested on Friday and charged with manslaughter, wanton endangerment, and criminal abuse of a child 12 or under. Purcell faces an additional charge of tampering with physical evidence.
