A Marshall County man riding his motorcycle was killed in a collision with a deer on Friday night.
The crash happened along Little Bear Highway. A deer reportedly jumped out and collided with the motorcycle driven by 51-year-old Jerry Whitehair of Gilbertsville. Marshall County Coroner Kenny Pratt told West Kentucky Star that Whitehair was pronounced dead at the scene.
Pratt said the crash highlights the potential dangers of collisions with deer, especially as they are on the move during the fall.
According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, vehicles struck deer in Kentucky 3,228 times in 2023. That was up from 2022 and the highest total in five years.
