A winter storm warning has been issued for parts of southeast Missouri, far southwestern Illinois, and western Kentucky on Friday.
The National Weather Service in Paducah is calling for snow starting overnight Thursday and persisting through Friday night. Areas of heavy snow in the warned area could exceed 4 inches.
Everyone in the quad state is expected to get at least 1-2 inches of snow with 2-4 inch amounts likely to be more common.
The snow will accumulate quickly and will lead to significant travel difficulties, especially farther south into Tennessee and Arkansas where 6 inches or more is forecast.
The Friday morning and evening commutes will be impacted.
Temperatures are expected to remain below freezing during the snow event.
After the snow, no significant warmup is forecast for the next week with afternoon highs remaining just above freezing into next week.
