The U.S. 51 Ohio River bridge at Cairo is back open to traffic after an early morning barge hit to one of the piers.
According to the U.S. Coast Guard, the vessel G.W. Frayser struck the bridge at 3:43 am while attempting to make a turn to head upstream on the Mississippi River with 15 barges.
The bridge was closed to traffic for just under two hours to allow a KYTC certified bridge inspector and other personnel to walk the bridge to check for possible damage.
