Two Paducah residents were arrested in connection with the death of a one-month-old infant late last year.

Police said 40-year-old Victoria P. Martin is charged with murder in connection with the death of the infant in a home on Martin Luther King drive on November 28th.

Investigators said  when they arrived at the home, they began CPR on the child who was later taken to Baptist Health Paducah where she was pronounced dead due to suffocation.

Martin refused to talk with detectives, but told Department for Community Based Service workers she was sitting in bed, holding the infant and eating about 3 am.

She said she passed out and awoke at 3:40 am to find the child unresponsive and not breathing.

She did not call for help at the time.

The father of the infant, 68-year-old Eugene B. Thomas Junior, called 911 after he awoke about 5 am and learned the baby was unresponsive.

Thomas was charged with criminal abuse.

Investigators said Thomas knew Martin regularly abuses alcohol, and that she is supposed to be supervised anytime she is with her other two children, but Thomas still left the infant and the other children in her care.

Both Thomas and Martin were lodged in the McCracken County Regional Jail.
