Two McCracken County men were indicted on manslaughter charges in connection to the death of a Calvert City man.
The McCracken County Grand Jury returned indictments against 49-year-old John Read and 41-year-old Christopher Scholl on September 15th, charging both men with manslaughter in the July overdose death of 24-year-old Jerry Seay of Calvert City.
On July 28th, McCracken County Sheriff's deputies responded to a home on Olivet Church Road. They arrived to find Seay unresponsive. Deputies and first responders began life-saving measures before transporting Seay to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police believed Seay died of consuming a lethal dose of methamphetamine, which the Kentucky Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed through autopsy. Read had been at the home, and detectives alleged that Read had given Seay the meth. Police also reportedly seized approximately 28 grams of meth from Read's home.
Detectives tracked the supply of the meth to Scholl, whom they believed to be the source. A search of Scholl's home on Old Mayfield Road reportedly uncovered more meth and trafficking supplies.
