As rain moves in this morning, the National Weather Service has issued a flood watch in effect through Friday morning for far southern Illinois, portions of southwest Indiana and all of western Kentucky. Nationally, the flood watch extends from Texas to Indiana.
Forecasters say widespread rains of an inch and a half to two and a half inches are expected across the watch area, and localized higher totals of three to four inches are possible.
Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.
Areas with two or more inches of rain are more likely to have some flash flooding concerns.
Above normal temperatures will continue through the weekend into early next week.
