National Weather Service staff in Paducah and Louisville confirmed Sunday that the tornado that traveled through Todd and Logan counties Saturday afternoon was an EF-2 storm.
After completing damage surveys, meteorologists said the tornado was on the ground for 31 miles, not including its earlier track from Montgomery County in Tennessee.
In Todd County, the tornado was on the ground for 13 miles and reached maximum wind speeds of 125 miles per hour.
Hundreds of trees snapped or uprooted. At least a dozen barns, sheds and garages were destroyed. One horse was killed when it was struck by debris. Several homes had parts of roofs removed. More than 50 power poles were broken and left 1500 customers without electricity, according to Pennyrile Electric.
In Logan County, the tornado remained on the ground for another 18 miles. It remained an EF-2 storm, where winds were still estimated at 115 miles per hour.
The National Weather Service said the storm’s total path would be released when other damage surveys are completed in the Clarksville area. They said Paducah's staff will likely assist with damage surveys in Montgomery County as well.
