Graves County citizens will soon benefit from two generous donations to purchase four (4) additional Tornado warning sirens to be constructed.

According to a social media post from the Graves County Sheriff's Office, the Graves County Fiscal Court has awarded the bid to Capitol Electronics (Federal Signal) for the purchase of four tornado sirens, at a cost of $38,693 each, for a total of $154,772.

This was made possible by monetary donations from Jackson Purchase Medical Center (Lifepoint Health), and the Mayfield-Graves County Tornado Relief Fund Inc.

Graves County Emergency Management Director Tracy Warner is compiling data to find areas of Graves County for the installation that would benefit the most per population and other factors.

The range of effectiveness of these sirens is estimated to be at a minimum 1 mile. Graves County currently have eleven (11) sirens, strategically placed in the city of Mayfield, and Graves County.

Jackson Purchase Medical Center CEO Dave Anderson stated that their donation to this cause will help keep area residents safe and is part of their commitment to one of the communities it serves.

Darvin Towery, spokesperson for the Mayfield-Graves County Tornado Relief Fund said, "The Mayfield Graves County Tornado Relief Fund, Inc is pleased to make a donation to Graves County Fiscal Court to provide matching funds in partnership with Jackson Purchase Medical Center to assist Graves County with providing early warning storm sirens to improve the storm warning system to portions of the county that are lacking in storm warning systems."
