Paducah could rewrite an 84-year-old entry in the weather record book today, before a significant cool down for the weekend.

If we reach the forecast high of 85 this afternoon at the Barkley Field office, it would break the National Weather Service mark of 84 set in 1940.

Paducah's historical average for today is 68 degrees.

That's where our highs for the weekend are headed, calling for both 70 on Saturday and Sunday. Sunday morning's low could fall to 40 or lower especially in southern Illinois. Paducah's average low for this weekend is 44.

Next week's forecast calls for still more warmer than normal temperatures in the upper 70s and low 80s.
