A large tornado Saturday afternoon killed 3 people in Tennessee in and around Clarksville, and extensive property damage also occurred in Todd County.
Officials posted on the Montgomery County (TN) Facebook page that three people are deceased, two adults and one child, as a result of the tornado that touched down around 1:35 pm between Clarksville and Oak Grove. Additionally, 23 people were treated at the hospital.
Photos from law enforcement and social media show buildings flattened, tractor-trailers turned over and cars upside down in several locations including the busy artery of Fort Campbell Boulevard..
As of 6 pm emergency officials posted that they were still in the search and rescue phase of the disaster. An emergency shelter was put in place at Clarksville Northeast High School.
At 2 pm, reports to the National Weather Service in Paducah indicated a tornado at the Kentucky-Tennessee line west of Guthrie. At 2:03, trees were downed along US 41 southeast of Trenton.
A horse was reported killed near Trenton and widespread damage was reported in nearby Guthrie.
At 2:09 many trees and powerlines came down and barnes were destroyed along US 79 southwest of Allensville.
By 2:11, social media and spotter reports noted more damage in and around Allensville itself.
The Todd County Sheriff's office said storm damage blocked Highways 79, 848, 181, 41 and 102. They said all law enforcement and emergency crews are out responding to the damage scenes.
The National Weather Service office in Paducah says they plan to conduct storm surveys on Sunday morning to help determine the speed and intensity of the tornado.
The Paducah meteorologists noted that their territory does not include the areas near Clarksville, or in Logan County, KY where damage also occurred.
