A Smithland man is dead following an incident with a Lyon County Sheriff's Deputy early Monday morning.
The Lyon County Sheriff's Office said a deputy was dispatched just after midnight to US 62 West in an attempt to locate a vehicle and subject who had reportedly been in a shooting incident in Marshall County.
In that incident, around midnight, 30-year-old Jedidah S. Skinner is said to have walked up to a vehicle in the parking area of the Kentucky Dam walking path. The individual in that vehicle was on the phone at the time. Marshall County Sheriff's deputies were alerted by that individual who told them that Skinner said something about drug use and showed a gun. During the call, that driver said they quickly left and reportedly said they heard a gunshot.
Just after 12:20 am, a Lyon County deputy spotted the vehicle on US 62 and proceeded to follow it into the Huck’s Travel Center in Kuttawa where Skinner and deputy were involved in a deadly force incident. The deputy was not harmed; however, Skinner was pronounced deceased at the scene by Lyon County Coroner Kris Dunn.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office requested Kentucky State Police's Criminal Response Team to investigate this incident as a matter of protocol. No other information is being released at this time.
