A southern Illinois election that ended in a dead heat could be decided today.

The Jackson County State’s Attorney race ended in a tie on election day when incumbent Joe Cervantez and opponent Marsha Cascio-Hale each received 10,805 votes.

Now mail-in and provisional ballots could decide the race.

The county clerk’s office has been counting those ballots, and hopes to announce a winner today.
