Smithland is gearing up for an exciting Octoberfest on October 19. This year marks the 225th celebration of the formation of Livingston County.

The date change this year was made in the hopes that Octoberfest will not conflict with families' fall break plans. The festivities will begin early with a 5K sponsored by Smithland First Baptist. Registration is at 7:30am followed by the race at 8:00am.

There will be wonderful vendors with various items for sale and food vendors that attendees have grown to love. The car show is being replaced by a Cruise-In this year. So there will still be plenty of interesting and sharp vehicles to view. Boston butts will also be available for presale soon. The annual parade will begin early this year at 10:30am.

This year's Octoberfest parade includes three grand marshals: Dickie Berry, Doris Cothron, and Bob Maxfield. There are a flurry of activities planned after the parade beginning at 11am. The Livingston County Historical Society will be conducting tours of the courthouse museum. There have also been plans to allow for tours of Fort Star behind Smithland Cemetery. And there will be a gospel singing located outside the activity building of Smithland First Baptist.

Weather permitting, the afternoon will wrap up with a special edition of the Sugar Creek mini-tractor pulls. To follow more specifics regarding Octoberfest activities, follow the Livingston County Chamber of Commerce Facebook page. Bring the family and join the fun in downtown Smithland for Octoberfest.
