Damage from frozen pipes delays reopening five Marshall County schools

Water damage from frozen pipes in five Marshall County schools will delay next week's return to classes.

In a statement to parents, Marshall County Superintendent Dr. Steve Miracle said that they are in the process of completing repairs along with cleaning and disinfecting the buildings, but the work will not be completed in time for classes to resume on Wednesday. 

Marshall County Schools will be closed on Wednesday to continue the work, however, teachers and staff will report as normal. . A decision about the rest of the week will be made on Tuesday.

Benton Elementary and Central Elementary suffered the most damage from the burst pipes. Marshall County High School, North Marshall Middle and South Marshall Middle had some damage, but the impact at those schools was minimal.

Dr. Miracle offered his thanks to custodians, teachers and all who have been working to make the necessary repairs.
