Graves County head-on crash ends with DUI charge

A head-on crash Saturday night near Mayfield ended with a DUI charge and one person sent to the hospital.

The Graves County Sheriff's Office said the crash occurred in the area of 4100 Old Dublin Road. 

Deputies said 47-year-old Joseph Donald Cherry of Mayfield reportedly failed to maintain his lane of travel which resulted in a collision. Fifty-five-year-old Eddie Richard Mayfield said he saw Cherry's vehicle coming towards him and attempted to leave the roadway, but Richard's vehicle was struck in the front end by Cherry's vehicle. 

Deputies said Cherry was operating his vehicle under influence of alcohol. Cherry was charged with DUI, wanton endangerment and failure to wear a seat belt. 

Richard received minor injuries as a result of the collision and was transported to Jackson Purchase Medical Center.
