The Marshall County Fiscal Court, at its Tuesday meeting, unanimously passed a resolution opposing the proposed changes to US 68 in Draffenville.
The resolution said that the court had been contacted by business owners and others that said they would be negatively affected by the changes, not only during construction but on completion, as well.
The resolution called on KYTC to seek alternative proposals.
The changes proposed by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet would be made to US 68 between I-69 and the US 641 south intersection. The plan includes changing four intersections that currently have signals to roundabouts which they said would improve traffic flow and safety.
KYTC is holding a public information meeting to discuss the planned changes on Tuesday, February 28th from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the upper commons area of the Marshall County High School gym. KYTC said the meeting will not feature a formal presentation, rather anyone can drop in and see the maps and other materials in an open house format. Engineers will be available to take comments or answer questions.
KYTC District 1 Chief Engineer Kyle Poat said, “We need public input to help our engineering and design staff as we move to develop a final design. We urge anyone who lives nearby, who owns property along the route, or who travels U.S. 68 in the project area to attend. Anyone who has traveled the U.S. 68 Corridor during the morning or afternoon commute is well aware of congestion and other traffic issues through Draffenville.”
KYTC said that nearly 13,500 vehicles pass through that area daily.
