The potential expansion of Paducah's Greenway Trail was explored on Tuesday.
At Paducah's city commission meeting, Mayor George Bray announced that a city team met with a representative of the National Park Service to consider urban bicycling opportunities.
Bray said there has been interest in extending the current 2.5-mile Greenway Trail. He said the city will soon kick off an initiative to see how that can be accomplished.
In June, Paducah was awarded the Park Service's River, Trails, and Conservation Technical Assistance Grant, which could help pay for future expansion plans.
The mayor said the National Park Service is working with Mayfield and Fulton toward similar long-term plans, including connecting those cities by bike trail. It's also discussing how the Park Service could potentially connect Mayfield with Paducah in the future.
Bray said another exploratory meeting is scheduled for November.
